Stay safe on festive nights out

Enjoy festive nights out safely in Weston-super-Mare town centre thanks to a new joint initiative we’ve launched with the police.

We’ve teamed up with Avon and Somerset Police to launch Operation All Safe, a campaign focused on keeping everyone who visits or works in Weston’s evening and night time economy safe throughout the festive period.

The #AllSafe campaign runs throughout December and into the New Year.

We’ll be:

  • tackling drink spiking – this is a top priority. Putting alcohol or drugs into someone’s drink without their knowledge or permission - whether intended as ‘a joke’ or to incapacitate them deliberately - is illegal and carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
  • tackling anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder, particularly when fuelled by drink or drugs. People will be banned from venues for this sort of behaviour.
  • helping people feel safer and less vulnerable after dark. The ‘Ask for Angela’ scheme is in operation at venues across the town centre, so if you feel unsafe, vulnerable or threatened at any time you can discreetly seek help by approaching staff and asking for ‘Angela’.

The distinctive purple MAVIS bus will also be parked up in the town centre on extra nights.

The bus is a safe haven for anyone needing assistance, whether that’s needing medical treatment from a paramedic, police assistance, calling a taxi, charging a phone, waiting for friends, getting directions, or even just having a chat.

A dedicated taxi provided by a local taxi operator is also available through MAVIS and can be ‘booked’ by paramedics and police to take home vulnerable people.
