Now is the time to get into the Christmas spirit as towns across North Somerset start switching on their Christmas lights and hosting fairs and festive fun over the coming weeks…

  • A pop-up shop selling work from local and talented creatives is coming to Weston High Street next week. The Christmas pop-up shop will be in the ground floor of Weston Artspace, from Monday (22 November) to Sunday 28 November. It’s open from 10am-5pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
  • Hear Christmas carols sung by popular local band The Lipinski Brothers during the Grand Pier’s Christmas Light Switch-On. A 30ft Christmas tree will be illuminated in honour of the Blue Light services. Then dance into the night with some favourite festive classics. The event starts at 5pm next Thursday (25 November). Tickets cost £5 each, which includes admission onto the pier. The event will also be live-streamed on the Grand Pier Facebook page for you to enjoy it in the comfort of your own home.
  • Carol singing and the Salvation Army Band will provide a festive backdrop to Clevedon’s Christmas lights switch on, from 5pm on Saturday 27 November in Queens Square.
  • Discover a host of arts, crafts and gifts from local independent businesses at the North Somerset Christmas Fair, from 10.30-4.30pm on Saturday 27 November at the Winter Gardens in Weston-super-Mare. Entry is free but there is an additional charge of £6.50 for Santa’s grotto.
  • Weston Festive Fayre also takes place on Saturday 27 (10am-10pm) and Sunday 28 November (10am-8pm), in the Italian Gardens. Enjoy the sparkling lights, indulge in a mulled wine, hot chestnuts or mouth-watering food, with lots of rides and activities for children. Father Christmas and Nanny Christmas will also be there (time slots must be booked).
  • See a spectacular sound and light public art installation in Weston-super-Mare. Lullaby, by internationally acclaimed artist Luke Jerram, will bring a cycling spectacle and magical sounds to neighbourhoods in Worle and central Weston as evening falls. The free spectacle is delivered by local people riding a fleet of decorated, illuminated bikes, twinkling in the evening light and bringing a night time lullaby of ambient and serene music to people’s doors. Culture Weston is working with St Paul’s Church, in Walliscote Road, to bring the event to the town centre on Saturday 27 November, and with the Big Worle Hub in Preanes Green to bring it to Worle on Sunday 28 November. Maps to follow.
